hi everyone,
i will be travelling around east Africa in 2006. i'm bringing my laptop so i can continue to do some freelance work while i travel. someone mentioned to me that voltage levels may be different depending on what country one is in and that i may need to get some kind of adapter for my laptop. (?) is this true? does anyone know about this and if so, can you please tell me what piece of gear i would need to purchase prior to my travels...
peace,
nora

Re: voltage differences, Africa to U.S.

Most laptops have 110/220 power cords. Take a look at the label on your laptop's power supply (mine says "input 100v-240v"). So all I have to do is have a set of adapters for the plug. You can get a set which will work in all African countries at any travel supply location. Most, but not all, electronics sold now are like that. For example, my ipod is 110/220 as well.
I hope you don't have to carry a voltage adaptor with you but Radio Shak has one called Multi-Nation Travel Adapter cat # 273-1412 that is cheap and works well.
I hope you enjoy East Africa, it's awesome and the people are wonderful.
