Very interesting Art thanks for posting this.

I'm not sure how this relates but a story: Earlier this summer I attended a protest outside a conference where the Sudan ambassador was speaking. The speaking engagement was one of several around the country where the Sudan government way supporting their case and it seems particularly to influence African Americans in favor of the government of Sudan.

Talking with a Ugandan friend he said that he wouldn't support something just because other black people thought he should. "What's right is right."

Unfortunately the protest didn't attract many so the newspaper account basically revolved around the low numbers. But another thing that bothered me was that because the conference was sponsored by a Muslim group the impression that American Muslims in general support the government in the situation in Darfur was perpetuated. In fact many mainstream Muslim groups are out spoken in their criticism of the government of Sudan.

Conscience is a human faculty. Sometimes when individual conscience goes against prevailing views, the contrary views are ignored. I had never heard of Einstein's work for civil rights. It's good that the story is being told.

      Hey Art,
Thanks so much for posting this. As one who struggled during the Sixties in the physics department of a major university it is nice to know that Einstein was with us. During the Sixties, I saw many promising physics majors(including myself) washed out because of their politics. This was at Northwestern, but Lake Forest College was altogether different.

But this just confirms that real genius has always had a comitment to social justice.
